I dropped my camera in the ocean :( I hate blogging without pictures, since I'm a horrendous writer I like to tell my stories with pics. Sorry about the absence. Hall and I bit the bullet today and went and bought an AMAZING new camera, a Nikon D3000. It's awesome, both of us have roots in Photography, we've spent many a late night developing photos in the darkroom at our colleges, and high schools, so it's a full circle for us. Hall loves photos for the technique of taking a photo, I love the darkroom process. My heart belongs in the amber light of a dark room developing, but it's been four years and there's no darkroom in my house yet, soon enough. However to fill the void we bought our first digital SLR and couldn't be happier. So very soon we will be back in business with photos and updates.
In the meantime we have been busy, Hall's parents, Rip and Charlotte came to visit from St. Simon's a little over two weeks ago. It was a short and funfilled weekend. We ate dinner at Tautog's on Friday night, woke up Saturday for breakfast casserole, and then a trip with Frank to the beach. We also went to a place here called the Military Aviation Museum, it's a private collection of old WWI and WWII airplanes that this guy restores and opens to the public. The cool thing about his planes is that he makes them all flyable again. Every single plane in that hanger can fly all the way down to the ones from 1911. INCREDIBLE. We saw one plane with the name of th epilot who used to fly it...William Bailey. I made a comment to Hall's Dad about it be ing interesting that my Uncle's name is William Bailey, also airforce, but not flying during WWII. Found out a few days later at my Grandmother's 90th birthday that it was my Uncle's Dad's plane. So awesome.
Later that night we went to celebrate Caleb's birthday at his house with Gina, Mike and Angie. On Sunday we went to Doc Taylor's for breakfast, yum! Then we ventured out to Fort Story to see the oldest lighthouse commisioned by the US Government in 1798. George Washington oversaw the construction himself and hired the contractor. It broke during fighting in the Civil War and has a "new" lighthouse right next to it built in 1881 that took over the job. The old one is still open to go to the top and it was beautiful!!! We really enjoyed going inside of it.
This past weekend was our good friends Mike and Angie's wedding here in Norfolk. We were honored to a part of the ceremonies, and it was a blast. Her centerpieces were gorgeous!! Again, if only I had a camera to capture all of it. I do now so we'll pick back up next weekend.
